AFRICAMPS AT WHITE ELEPHANT SAFARIS - Pongola Hotels

The two-bedroom luxury tents at AfriCamps at White Elephant Safaris include a kitchen, dining area, and seating area. The main bedroom has a Queen bed, the second bedroom has a double bed and a single bunk. Each tent has a bathroom with a shower and a private hot tub on the deck. Air conditioning keeps the tent cool, and the patio offers views of the Pongolapoort Dam and the Lebombo Mountains. Nyala and warthogs often roam near the tents.

Each tent is self-catering with a stove, kitchenware, and two small fridges. Guests can order breakfast baskets and braai (BBQ) baskets at an extra cost. The on-site shop sells cold drinks, bottled water, ice cream, firewood for the hot tub and braai, and curios. For groceries, the Pick n Pay in Pongola is about 30 minutes away. There is no restaurant; guests prepare their own meals using the kitchen or braai.

The camp has a communal swimming pool with views over the dam. The wood-fired hot tub can be used as a cool plunge pool in hot weather. Guests can book game drives (R 520 for 3 hours) and boat safaris on the Pongola River and Jozini Dam (R 540). Walking safaris are also available. Wildlife includes elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and rhinos. Birdwatching is abundant-bring binoculars. The camp also provides sun loungers and a picnic area.

The camp is inside the Pongola Game Reserve, 30 minutes of gravel road from the main gate. The N2 is in good condition. The view overlooks the Jozini Dam. No self-driving is allowed inside the reserve; all wildlife viewing requires a booked activity. The nearest town is Pongola, about 30 minutes away. The camp is quiet and feels remote, with animals like nyala and warthogs around the tents.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Daily housekeeping and laundry services are available. Free WiFi and 4G work inside the tents. Parking is free. The camp is non-smoking throughout. Family rooms are offered, and baby cots and high chairs can be provided. The honesty shop allows guests to take items and write their room number. Firewood for the hot tub and braai must be bought from the shop. Activities are booked at reception.
