Rooms
Matatane Camp offers family rooms and standard chalets with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, and river views. Each room includes a tea and coffee maker, work desk, and free toiletries. The Classic Tent and Deluxe Double or Twin Room with River View are also available. Some units feature a kitchenette and braai on the deck.
Dining
Breakfast is served daily, and packed lunches are available on request. The camp provides kids' meals and barbecue facilities. Guests can use the tea and coffee maker in their rooms. For self-catering, some chalets have a full kitchen setup. The all-inclusive package includes meals, and the catered option receives positive feedback for its quality.
Location
Matatane Camp is well signposted from the main tar road, but the road from the gate is rough and unsuitable for small sedans. The camp is fenced off from the Big 5 reserve, so self-drive game viewing is not allowed. Nearby landmarks include Matshitsholo Nature Reserve (38 km), eMakhosini Ophathe Heritage Park (40 km), and Richards Bay Airport (200 km). Guests can walk freely within the fenced area, and birdwatching is popular.
Services
Free on-site private parking is available, along with accessible parking. The camp offers a paid shuttle service, airport drop-off and pick-up, and daily housekeeping. Laundry service and packed lunches can be arranged. Security includes 24-hour surveillance, CCTV, and fire extinguishers. The property provides free WiFi, non-smoking rooms, and invoice for bookings. Game drives and other activities require advance booking to avoid disappointment.
“Matatane Camp sits beautifully within the Babanango Game Reserve, with its location offering truly stunning valley views from various vantage points, including an epic pool area. The family units are noted for their comfort, complementing the excellent catered meals or full self-catering facilities. This is a place where the environment itself feels therapeutic, providing a peaceful setting for nature exploration with friendly, helpful staff enhancing the stay.”
