Self-Catering Cottages
Penwarn Farm offers self-catering cottages like the Mziki Cottage and Inguni house, with private bathrooms, tea/coffee makers, and heating. Some units include fireplaces, electric blankets, and jet baths. Rooms face the garden, lake, or Drakensberg mountains.
BBQ and Picnic Areas
There is no restaurant. Guests cook in their units or use the BBQ facilities, braai area, and picnic spots. The outdoor fireplace and bonfire area come with stacked wood.
Leisure
On-site activities include canoeing, fishing, hiking, cycling, and table tennis. A children's playground and outdoor play equipment are available. The property also has an outdoor fireplace and picnic area for group gatherings. Note: cell reception is very weak, making it a good digital detox spot.
Rural Mountain Setting
Located on Bushman's Nek Road in Drakensberg Garden, the farm offers views of the garden, lake, and mountains. Pietermaritzburg Airport is 100 km away. The access road is gravel and rocky - a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
Daily Housekeeping & WiFi
Services include daily housekeeping, laundry, ironing, and meeting/banquet facilities. Free WiFi is available but weak. Free parking with accessible spots. Staff are friendly and handle checkout and security.
“Penwarn Farm offers a truly immersive escape, where the breathtaking Drakensberg Garden views are complemented by the quiet rhythm of farm life, from the distant lowing of cattle to the vibrant bird calls greeting each morning. I found the spacious, well-appointed cottages, like Mziki, to be thoughtfully equipped for comfort, with cozy fireplaces and the thoughtful touch of daily servicing that truly allows one to disconnect. It's a place where the landscape itself encourages a profound sense of peace and exploration.”
