Rockwood Karkloof Forest Lodge and Mountain Cabin are three-bedroom self-catering units set within the Karkloof Nature Reserve. Each unit has a private bathroom, crisp linen, and toiletries. Mountain Lodge runs on solar power. Both have outdoor dining areas with Big Green Eggs. Forest Lodge includes a children's playground. Note: a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle is required to reach the units, which are 5 km apart.

Guests cook their own meals in fully equipped kitchens. Each unit has a Big Green Egg for braaiing, smoking, or pizza on the deck. The Forest Lodge fireplace keeps the lounge warm. Firewood is stocked, and a complimentary welcome pack includes milk, tea, biscuits, and a bottle of wine. The closest Spar supermarket is a 20-minute drive away, so stock up before arrival.

The reserve offers hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and dam swimming. Fishing and canoeing are available. Children have a playground and outdoor play equipment. Guests can enjoy forest bathing, a riverside setting, and board games. Famous Karkloof trails start near the units. A hike leads to a secluded waterfall. Note that road streams may dip low, so drive with care.

The property sits in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, along the Midlands Meander. It is 20 km from Howick, 40 minutes from Pietermaritzburg, 1.5 hours from Durban, and 5 hours from Johannesburg. Access is via the N3 freeway, but the last stretch requires a 4x4. The nearest town amenities are 20 minutes away, and mobile signal may be weak-staff check in regularly for safety.
