Dining
There is a BBQ area for guest use. The nearby lodge has a restaurant known for its pizza and cocktails, which guests recommend. For local produce, Hillbillies (a few kilometers away) sells fresh items, and there is a cheese shop and bakery.
Leisure
Guests can enjoy hiking, cycling, and fishing in the area, as well as bike tours, mini golf, and a water park nearby. The property also offers board games and puzzles for indoor entertainment. Walking tours can be arranged.
Location
Shepherd Farm is located 26 km from Winterton in the Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal. The area is known for its mountain and lake views, with peaceful rolling mountains and the sound of cow bells. The nearest airport is likely King Shaka International, but road access is manageable if taken slowly.
Services
The property provides free parking (including a parking garage), free Wi-Fi, and luggage storage. An invoice is provided for bookings. The host Vicky offers a warm welcome and is responsive to guest needs. The property is off-grid, with power going off at 11 pm, but the host advises this before booking. There are no dedicated concierge, business, or child services on site, but the family-friendly environment and helpful host cover most needs.
“I found the views here to be genuinely exceptional, providing an unparalleled sense of peace amidst the Cathkin area's natural beauty. The thoughtful design and immaculate upkeep of the accommodation, coupled with Vicky's welcoming hospitality, truly create a home-away-from-home atmosphere.”
